Return to Play

finding pitfalls in the current system

Lack of Individualization

Performance coaches and physical therapists often use generic return to play programs and stock post-op protocols which frequently overlook the specific nuances of the athlete's specific needs which include their sport demands, specific position, anatomy, and energy systems.

Lack of Guided Direction

Frequently in the return to play process, athletes and coaches lack access to proper guidance outlining specific performance metrics and milestones which often leads to mismanaged exceptions and athletes unnecessarily rushing the return to play process.

Lack of Communication

Far too often there is a breakdown in communication and absence of common language between performance specialists, training staff, and coaches. Without effectively communicating defined roles during the return to play process can lead to an elevated risk of re-injury, and/or an unnecessarily inefficient timetable for return to play.

NO ATHLETE LEFT BEHIND

  • At Onyx Elite, we understand that returning athletes to play following an injury requires a thorough understanding of a player's surgical procedures, strength and conditioning programs (past and present), physical demands of sport and position, and mental health.

  • To promote a seamless reintroduction into sport and optimize efficiency our performance specialists provide specific guidance and education regarding criterion-based metrics and performance milestones which establishes expectation while reducing an athlete's desire to "rush the process" to get back with the team, causing potential increased risk of damage to an existing injury.

  • Because we are athletes, we know athletes. Our performance specialists are best equipped to create return to play programs that match the individualized needs of the athlete to reach highest outcomes
